Hi, I’m Cara — the heart and lens behind Under the Dogwoods Photography, a lifestyle photographer based in Huntersville, NC. I’m drawn to honest, heartfelt moments — the chapters of childhood that pass too quickly, the quiet in-betweens of family life, and the beauty found in simply being together. My approach is rooted in ease and intention, allowing sessions to unfold naturally so stories can take shape without force.
Beyond families, I’m inspired by the people and spaces that shape our stories — local farms, familiar places, and the homes that hold comfort, memory, and new beginnings. From sunlit outdoor sessions to quiet moments at home with a growing family, photography for me is about more than beautiful images; it’s about preserving moments that feel deeply personal, lived-in, and true.

I grew up in Virginia, where I met my husband, and named Under the Dogwoods as a tribute to the dogwood — the state flower of both Virginia and North Carolina, two places deeply woven into my story.
